Cyber Security 101

Before we discuss how to ensure the best cybersecurity practices are in place, it is important to understand just what it entails.

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting all networks, devices and data from any unauthorized access. This increases the likelihood that your personal information remains confidential.
Having your personal information in the wrong hands can be scary to think about, but the experts here at Broussard Poché, LLP have a few tips to help keep your information safe.
Antivirus System

  • If you don’t have an antivirus system or software in place, you should have one in place as soon as possible. The job of an antivirus system is to function as the barrier that keeps the majority of security threats out. There are many different software options available that will best fit your needs.
Passwords
  • It is important to use strong passwords that cannot be easily guessed. You should use different passwords, each consisting of at least 16 characters, for every program and device.
Physical Security
  • At work, remember to lock your computer screen when you are not at your desk to lower the risk of personal information being accessed. Also, make sure that any files that contain personal information of any sort are properly locked up in a secure area.
    Email/Social Media
  • When it comes to email and social media, you should never open anything from someone you don’t know. If you get a link from an email or number that you do not recognize, do not click it because it could be connected to malware.
By following these steps, you can rest easy at night knowing that your personal information is safe and secure.
